It has been known that allergy is an important factor in the etiopathogenesis of nasal polyposis and effects the patients adversely in their prognosis. The allergic basis in patients with nasal polyposis is investigated by a detailed allergic history, prick test, IgE assay (total and specific), eosinophilia in nasal smear and eosinophilia in peripheral blood smear. In our study, we investigated these parameters and found an allergic basis in 21 patients out of 48. We performed Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) to all 48 patients. Nasal obstruction was relieved in 73,7 % of allergic group and in 80 % of noıı-allergic group. We concluded that allergic basis in patients with nasal polyposis decreases the success of FESS postoperatively. There fore, far the treatment of these patients, medical treatment for allergy, besides endoscopic surgery, must be the treatment modality to be chosen.

Fonksiyonel endoskopik sinüs cerrahisi (FESC} vakalarının büyük çoğunluğunu nazal polipozisli hastalar oluşturur. Nazal polipozis etyopatogenezinde allerjinin rol oynadığı ve hastalan olumsuz yönde etkilediği belirtilmiştir. Nazal polip vakalarında allerjik zemini araştırmak için allerji hikayesinin yanında prick testi, total ve spesifik IgE, nazal smearda eozinofılinin bulunması, periferik yaymada eozinofıli gibi parametreler kullanılmaktadır. Çalışmamızda da bu parametreler kullanılarak 48 hastanın 21\'inde allerjik zemin tespit edildi. 48 hastanın tamamına FESC uygulandı. Allerjik grupta burun tıkanıklığındaki operasyon başarı oranı % 73.7, non-allerjik grupta ise % 80 olarak bulunmuştur. Sonuç olarak; nazal polipozisli hastalarda allerjik zeminin bulunması postoperatif dönemde FESC\'nin başarı oranını düşürmektedir. Bu nedenle allerjiye yönelik bir tedavinin de uygulanması operasyon başarısını yükseltmektedir.
