ABSTRACT
This report presents the prevalence of OME among 1681 elementary school children from 9 schools from three different regions of Kocaeli who were undertaken a thorough ENT examination between April - June 1994. At the and of the first step evaluation the prevalence of OME was determined as increasing in direct proportion with the air pollution levels. The findings also emphasized that smoking habits of the parents may also play a role in the pathogenesis of OME.

ÖZET
Bu rapor Kocaeli\'nin değişik bölgelerinden 9 ilkokulun Nisan-Haziran 1994 tarihleri arasında KBB muayeneleri yapılan 1681 öğrenci arasında Effüzyonlu Otitis Media (EOM) rastlanma oranını sunmaktadır. Bu. birinci basamak değerlendirme sonucunda EOM prevelansının hava kirliliği oranı ile doğru orantılı olarak artmakta olduğu gözlendi Bulgular aile içinde ebeveynlerin sigara kullanım alışkanlığının da EOM patogenezinde rol oynayabileceğini düşündürdü.
