ABSTRACT
To assess the orgin of nasal polyps and their effects on major sinuses 52 sides of 37 patients with early stage nasal polyps were evaluated by endoscopy, surgical findings and computerized tomography. The majority of polyps originated from the anterior surface of the bulla ethmoidalis (73%). No statistical significance was recorded between the sites of origin and the opacified major sinuses (x2 : 3.227; p > 0.05). It is concluded tat the most frequent site of origin is the anterior ethmoidal cells and the most commonly opacified sinus is the maxillary sinus. The presence opacification in major sinuses does not seem to affect the site of origin of polyps.
