Hamartomas or hamartomatous polyps are tumor-like, non-neoplastic lesions that present themselves with abnormal growth and mixture of tissues which are indigenous to the region. They are usually present at birth or in the newborn period. In adults, hamartomatous polyps are unusual. Hamartomas commonly orginate from the intestine, lung and kidneys. In head and neck area, they are relatively rare. The mechanisms that induce the development of a hamartoma are still unknown. The differential diagnosis of hamartomas include teratomas, dermoid cysts, and other malignant lesions. Since hamartomas are benign lesions, total excision is the treatment of choice. In this case report, a case of 13-month-old otherwise healthy boy with a chondroid hamartomatous polyp originating from the right side of nasal vestibule is presented and the differential diagnosis and the treatment of hamartomatous polyps in the head-neck region are discussed.

Hamartomlar veya hamartomatöz polipler, normal doku elemanlarının anormal düzen ve oranda gelişmesi sonucu ortaya çıkan tümör benzeri, non-neoplastik oluşumlardır. Genellikle doğumda veya doğumdan hemen sonra görülürler. Nadiren yetişkinlerde de oluşabilirler. Çoğunlukla gastrointestinal sistem, akciğer ve böbrekte görülürler. Baş-boyun bölgesinde yerleşmeleri oldukça nadirdir. Oluşum mekanizmaları tam olarak bilinmemektedir. Teratom, dermoid kist ve diğer malign kitlelerden ayırıcı tanıları yapılmalıdır. Benign oluşumlar olduklarından tedavide total çıkarılmaları yeterlidir. Bu olgu sunumunda, sağ nazal vestibülden kaynaklanan kondroid komponent içeren hamartomatöz polibi olan 13 aylık sağlıklı erkek bebek sunulmuş ve baş-boyun bölgesinde nadir görülen hamartomların ayırıcı tanı ve tedavisi tartışılmıştır.
