ABSTRACT
Schwannomas are solitary benign tumors originating
from the neural sheath of peripheral, cranial or autonomic nerves. While
it can be seen anywhere in the body, it is quite unusual to see it in the
tonsil. In this case report, a unilateral tonsillar mass causing dysphagia
in a 26-year-old female patient was totally excised for diagnosis and
schwannoma was diagnosed histopathologically. Total excision is recommended
in the treatment of tonsillar schwannomas, and additional
treatment is not required.
Keywords: Tonsil mass; tonsillectomy; schwannoma; dysphagia
ÖZET
Schwannomlar perferik, kraniyal veya otonom sinirlerin nöral
kılıfından kaynaklanan benign karakterde soliter tümörlerdir. Vücudun
her yerinde görülebilirken tonsilde görülmesi oldukça sıradışıdır. Bu
olgu sunumunda, 26 yaşındaki kadın olguda, disfajiye neden olan tek
taraflı tonsil kitlesi tanısal amaçlı total eksize edilmiş ve histopatolojik
olarak schwannom tanısı konulmuştur. Tonsil schwannomlarının tedavisinde
total eksizyon önerilmekte, ek tedaviye gerek duyulmamaktadır.
