The aimes of our study were to determine c-erb-B2 and bcl-2 expressions in nasopharyngeal carcinomas and to investigate their values as prognostic indicators in correlation with survival, size, regional and distant metastasis of the disease, the presence of cranial nerve palsies, histopathology, as well as p53 expression, Ki-67 and PCNA indexes, EBV (LMP) and MDR-l gene expressions. Immunohistochemical staining for bcl-2 and c-erb-B2 was performed on archival material from 35 indifferantiated NPC. C-erb-B2 was not expressed in any of the tumors, whereas high bcl-2 expression was detected (71%). No significant relation were found among these parameters and prognosis. In the univariant analysis the only significant correlation was found between the presence of MDR-I gene and bcl-2 overexpression (p > 0.05).

Çalışmamızın amacı nazofarinks kanserinde c-erbB2 ve bcl-2 ekspresyonlarını tespit ederek bu sonuçların prognostik önemlerini ve klinik, patolojik, moleküler ve proliferatif belirleyiciler ile karşılaştırarak saptamaktır. Bu amaçla 35 indiferansiye nazofarinks kanserli vakanın patolojik arşiv materyali üzerinde immünhistokimyasal yöntemler ile çalışılmıştır, cerbB2 ekspresyonu hiçbir vakada saptanamaz iken Bcl-2 ekspresyonu yüksek oranda(%7l) pozitif saptanmıştır. Araştırılan parametreler ile prognoz arasında anlamlı bir ilişki saptanamamıştır. Anlamlı koreleasyon gösteren tek beraberlik MDR-I geni ve bcl-2 geni ekspresyonları arasında tespit edilmiştir (p > 0.05).
