The relationship between regional mastoid pneumatization, and the position of the sigmoid sinus (SS) and the Jugular bulb (JB), was examined on 35 adult temporal bones. Pneumatization was assessed separately in the sinodural angle (SDA) area, intersinofacial area, and mastoid apex area, according to findings during dissection. The distance between the SS and mid-point of the mastoid segment of the facial nerve (FN), and that between the SS and the JB apex was measured. In addition, the SDA and the height of the JB (JBH) was also measured. There was found a good correlation between the size of the SDA and the pneumatization of the SDA area. When the SDA air cells were poorly pneumatic, the size of the SDA was narrower. However, the distance between the SS and FN was not correlated with the pneumatization of the intersinofacial area while there was relationship between the size of the SDA and this distance. Likewise, neither the JBH nor the distance between the SS and JB apex was correlated with the pneumatization of the mastoid apex area.

Sigmoid Sinüs (SS) ve Jugular Bulbus (JB) pozisyonu ile bölgesel mastoid pnömatizasyonu arasındaki ilişki 35 erişkin temporal kemikte incelendi. Pnömatizasyon, diseksiyon sırasındaki bulgulara göre sinodural açı (SDA), intersinofasyal ve mastoid apeks bölgelerinde ayrı olarak değerlendirildi. SS ile fasyal sinirin (FS) mastoid segmentinin orta noktası arası mesafe ve SS ile JB apeksi arası mesafeler ölçüldü. Ayrıca SDA genişliği ve JB yüksekliği (JBH) de ölçüldü. SDA genişliği ile bu bölgenin pnömatizasyonu arasında ilişki olduğu gözlendi. SDA bölgesinin pnömatizasyonu kötü olduğunda SDA daha dardı. Bununla birlikte, SS ile FS arası mesafe, SDA genişliği ile korelasyon gösterirken intersinofasyal bölgenin pnömatizasyonu ile korelasyon göstermemekteydi. Benzer şekilde mastoid apeks bölgesinin pnömatizasyonun ne JBH ile ne de SS ve JB apeksi arası mesafe ile korelasyon göstermediği saptandı.
