ABSTRACT
Forestier disease, known as diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperosteozis, is characterized by formation of osteophytes due to encondral ossification of paravertebral ligamants and muscles. Patients may complain from dysphagia, neck pain and otalgia. The diagnosis of this disease may be delayed because of these nonspesific symptoms. The disease must be considered in the etiology of dysphagia and differantial diagnosis of retropharyngeal masses. Although conservative theraphy is the first choice in the early stage, progressive disease needs excision of osteophytes surgically. In this article we present a case diagnosed as Forestier disease, complaining of dysphagia by the formation of osteophytes at C3-C6 levels and reviewed the literature.
ÖZET
Diffüz idiyopatik iskelet hiperostozisi (Forestier hastalığı) paravertebral ligaman ve kasların enkondral ossifikasyonu sonucu gelişen spinal osteofit oluşumları ile karakterizedir. Hastalarda disfaji, boyun ağrısı, otalji gibi şikayetlere yol açabilir. Bu nonspesifik semptomlar nedeniyle hastalığın tanısı sıklıkla gecikebilir. Hastalık disfaji etyolojisi ve retrofarengeal kitlelerin ayırıcı tanısında özellikle akılda tutulmalıdır. Tedavi erken dönemde konservatif iken, ileri dönemde cerrahi olarak osteofitlerin eksize edilmesidir Bu makalede C3-C6 vertebralar seviyesinde osteofit oluşumuyla, disfajiye sebep olan, Forestier hastalığı tanısı konulan bir vaka literatür eşliğinde sunulmuştur.
