Mucormycosis is an invasive fungal infection, characterized by high mortality and morbidity, which is caused by Mukorales class of fungi. Rinocerebral form is the most common type. This form is usually seen in uncontrolled diabetic and immunodefi cient patients and is fatal if not diagnosed early and treated aggresively. The infection usually begins in the nose and spreads to paranasal sinuses, orbita and intracranial structures by direct invasion or blood vessels. Treatment strategy should involve the control of underlying disease, application of Amphotericin B and extensive surgical debridement. In this paper, a 50 year–old male patient with rhinocerebral mucormycosis is presented in the light of current literature and the diagnosis and treatment of the disease is reviewed.

Mukormikozis, Mukorales sınıfı mantarların neden olduğu, yüksek mortalite ve morbiditeyle seyreden invaziv bir mantar en- feksiyonudur. En sık görülen formu rinoserebral mukormikozistir. Daha çok kontrolsüz diyabeti ve immün yetersizliği olanlarda görülen bu hastalık erken tanı koyulamaz ve agresif tedavisi yapılmazsa sıklıkla ölümle sonuçlanır. Enfeksiyon genelde burunda baslar, direkt yayılım veya kan damarları yoluyla paranazal sinüsler, orbita ve intrakraniyal olusumlara yayılır. Tedavide altta yatan hastalık kontrol altına alınmalı, Amfoterisin B kullanılıp genis cerrahi debridman yapılmalıdır. Bu yazıda, 50 yasında rinoserebral mukormikozis olgusu sunulmus ve güncel literatür incelenerek hastalığın tanı ve tedavisi gözden geçirilmistir.
