The Broken Suturing Needle in the Tonsillar Region

ABSTRACT
Tonsillectomy is the most common operation that is performed in the Ear Nose Throat practice and many serious complications may be encountered. Broken suture needles during operation are rare. It can be difficult to find and remove needles during operation. Our patient had tonsillectomy when he was 4 years old, during the operation the suture needle was broken and the fragment disappeared in the tonsillary region, the surgeon was unable to retrieve it. The needle was left in surgical site and the patient was controlled for 7 years. There were no clinical signs or symptoms related to the needle.

ÖZET
Tonsillektomi Kulak Burun Boğaz pratiğinde en sık yapılan ameliyatlardan biri olup, birçok ciddi komplikasyonla karşılaşmak mümkündür. Operasyon sırasında sütür iğnesinin kırılması nadir olarak görülmektedir. İğnenin bulunması ve çıkarılması operasyon esnasında zor olabilmektedir. Hastamız 4 yaşındayken tonsillektomi operasyonu geçirmiş ve operasyon sırasında sütür iğnesi kırılarak, tonsiller bölgede kayıp olmuş ve cerrah tarafından çıkarılamamış. İğne cerrahi sahada bırakılarak, hasta 7 yıl boyunca takip edildi. İğneye bağlı herhangi bir klinik semptom ve bulguya rastlanılmadı.
