In this study, the level of serum tissue polypeptide antigen (TPA) of 30 patients with epidermoid cancer in head and neck region were measured he fore the therapy, and reevaluated 8 weeks and a year after the therapy. In 15 patients, the TPA levels were found high before therapy. The poor prognosis were observed in patients who had continuation of high TPA levels after therapy. The prognosis were better in patients with normal serum TPA levels he fore and after therapy. As a result, we concluded that the investigation of serum TPA levels have no enough value for early cancer secreening and diagnosis however, it may offer vuluable İnformation on prediction of prognosis and in control

Bu çalışmada baş-boyun bölgesi epidermoid kanseri bulunan 30 olguda, tedavi öncesinde, tedavi sonrası 8. haftada ve bir yıl sonra serum \"tissue polypeptide antigen\" (TPA) değerleri araştırılmıştır, tedavi öncesinde 15 olguda yüksek serum TPA değerleri elde edilmiştir. Bunlardan tedavi sonrasında da TPA yüksekliği devam edenlerde prognozun kötü, tedavi öncesi ve sonrası normal TPA değerli olgularda prognozun daha iyi olduğu görülmüştür. Sonuç olarak serum TPA araştırmasının erken tanı ve tarama aracı olarak yetersiz, prognoz tahmini ve tedavi monitörizasyonu amacıyla kullanıldığında faydalı olabileceği kanısına varılmıştır.
