The clinical efficacy of topical ciprofloxacin was studied in two groups, each composed of 30 child patients, all of whom were effected by chronic suppurative ear disease. All patients in the study had already been treated with several different topical and oral agents without success. Prior to therapy, all patients were evaluated for bacteriological culture and audiological measurement. The favorable clinical response was 21% with topical use of 0.9 % sodium chloride solution in group I (control), and 77 % with locally administered drops of ciprofloxacin in group II. Any toxic effect was not encountered with the topical use of ciprofloxacin. The results of this study indicate that topical ciprofloxacin seems to be effective and does not cause any toxic effect in ear with chronic suppurative otitis media in childhood.

Topik siprofloksasinin klinik etkinliği her biri 30 kronik otitis medialı çocuk hastadan, oluşan iki grupta değerlendirildi. Tüm hastaların hikayesinden daha önce başarısız sistemik ve topik tedavi kullandıkları öğrenildi. Tedavi öncesi tüm hastalarda odyolojik değerlendirme ve kulak akıntısının bakteriyolojik incelemeleri yapıldı. Topik olarak serum fizyolojik kullanılan grup I\'de (kontrol) başarı oranı %2l, siprofloksasinin topik olarak uyguladığı grup Il\'de %77 olarak bulundu. Herhangi bir toksik etkiye rastlanmadı. Bu çalışmanın sonucu göstermektedir ki, topik olarak uygulanan siprofloksasin, kronik otitis medialı çocuklarda oldukça etkindir ve herhangi bir toksik etkisi yoktur.
